G30

Gee Three Zero: Defined return point.

G30 In many ways the same as G28 however the “Home” position is a specified position in Parameter 1241

Syntax:

G30 this will cause the machine to move at rapid speed to the specified “home” position.

G30 Is A Non-Modal Command

Reasoning:

If you have a bigger machine like a 2m – 3m bed lathe then you really don’t want to be sending the carriage all the way back every time you want to do a tool change. Not only does it add a lot of time to a cycle (if you have multiple tool changes) it’s also adding movement wear you don’t need to be adding (spinning up the ball screws for no real gain).

Parameter 1241 holds the data of an X and Z position that you control that can be anywhere away from the job where the longest tool in the turret will clear the job as an intermediate tool change position.

I’m not a huge fan of new users screwing around with parameters to be fair, it’s easy to delete shit you really don’t want to mess with and worse case (and I’ve seen it done) you could bin ALL of the parameters requiring a new set to be loaded. You better pray you have a copy or you have access to Steve Curtis and he’s feeling helpful (Inside joke about probably the most tech savvy guy I know).
